On April 27, 2023, the Tashkent International Investment Forum was held for the second time in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The President of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, participated in the forum and addressed local and foreign investors and entrepreneurs about the vast opportunities available in Uzbekistan. The event was not only attended by businessmen and investors but also by high-ranking guests such as the head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akilbek Japarov, the President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Sulaiman al-Jassir, the UN Deputy Secretary General Olga Algaerova, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates Suhail Al-Mazrui, the Minister of Economic Development of Hungary Marton Nagy, and the Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power Company Muhammad Abdullah Abunaiyan.
The main goal of the forum, as stated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the beginning of his speech, was to establish stronger ties among the participants and create new business opportunities. The President also highlighted the significant progress that has been made since the previous year's forum. He mentioned that various taxes have been reduced for investors, making Uzbekistan a more investment-friendly country. He also emphasized the government's efforts in fighting corruption and highlighted the fact that around 1 million people have been lifted out of poverty in just one year.
Environmental protection was also a key topic discussed by the President during the forum. He mentioned that Uzbekistan is giving significant attention to the production of renewable energy, and companies such as ACWA Power, Masdar, and TOTAL Eren are developing various projects in this regard in the country. The President pointed out that there is an opportunity for an additional $8 billion worth of "green economy" projects in the country, creating more opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs alike.
Moreover, the President highlighted that Uzbekistan is rapidly becoming the hub of tourism, IT, and technology in the region. The development in various fields has a positive impact not only for Uzbekistan but also for the whole Central Asia region. This development is attracting more investments, increasing job opportunities, and creating a better future for the people of Uzbekistan and the region as a whole.
Overall, the Tashkent International Investment Forum provided an excellent opportunity for local and foreign investors and entrepreneurs to connect and explore business opportunities in Uzbekistan. The government's commitment to creating a more investment-friendly environment and their focus on environmental protection and sustainable development bodes well for the country's future.
