TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 7. Uzbekistan and the USA have engaged in discussions regarding the restoration of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), a move that would enhance the access of Uzbek products to US markets, TurkicWorld reports.
The development emerged during a meeting between Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce David de Falco.
The parties explored a broad range of bilateral issues aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.
Additionally, the participants reviewed joint measures to develop collaboration in fields such as geology, metallurgy, chemistry, and the textile industry.
The US delegation expressed readiness to provide technical and consultative assistance to Uzbekistan's participation in the SABIT program, aimed at enhancing the skills of local enterprises in international marketing and export diversification. This support is expected to bolster the potential of the national brand "Made in Uzbekistan." The parties also discussed Uzbekistan's involvement in the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).
To note, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with the US reached $613.6 million from January through August 2024, with exports totaling around $210 million and imports of about $403.5 million.
