Uzbekistan's Central Election Commission registers parliamentary candidates

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 20. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has officially registered candidates for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament), TurkicWorld reports.

According to the report, the announcement came during a recent CEC meeting.

The decision involved the registration of candidates put forward by several political parties, including the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan "Milliy Tiklanish," the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan "Adolat" across single-member electoral districts.

In total, 375 candidates have been registered from these parties for the Legislative Chamber, nominated by five political parties in single-member electoral districts.

Additionally, 500 candidates have been registered from party lists in a unified electoral district.

Notably, among the candidates, women make up 391, representing 44.7 percent of the total, marking the highest percentage in the country's electoral history.

The candidates include representatives of various nationalities living in Uzbekistan. In particular, 973 people of Tajik nationality, 588 of Kazakh, 146 of Turkmen, 141 of Kyrgyz, and 67 of Russian, as well as representatives of other peoples, have been nominated to the Legislative Chamber and local Kengashes.

Elections for regional, city, and district councils, as well as members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, are scheduled for October 27.

The participating parties include the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Democratic Party of National Revival, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan "Adolat."
