UNWTO Forum: Plenary session starts as part of the open session

Uza. An open session is being held in the Congress Hall at the “Great Silk Road” International Tourist Center as part of the forum of the General Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organization.

After the opening ceremony of the event, in accordance with the rules, the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain – the host of the 24th session – Rosana Morillo handed over the chairmanship of the meeting to Uzbekistan.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov. UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili addressed the first plenary meeting within the open session. He noted that Uzbekistan has become one of the most active members of the Organization as a result of the decisive initiatives of the Head of state. He emphasized that the Samarkand conference is also a confirmation of this opinion.

Indeed, Samarkand, which has attracted the attention of tourists worldwide, is famous for its unique ancient and architectural monuments. Moreover, as one of the cradles of world civilization, it has made immeasurable contributions to the development of science.

Representatives of different countries – ministers responsible for the tourism sector – also recognized that Uzbekistan attaches priority to the development of tourism – one of the most rapidly growing areas of the world economy.

At the meeting, discussions and debates continue on current issues aimed at developing the industry.
