ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 9. Turkmenistan advocates for the expansion of the volumes and geography of energy supplies within the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and beyond, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at the CIS Heads of State Council meeting in Moscow on October 8, TurkicWorld reports.
"This includes both raw material supplies and electricity," the head of state explained.
According to the president, this initiative was proposed as part of the CIS economic cooperation strategy until 2030.
"The priorities include transport, energy, industrial cooperation, and several other areas. A phased and systematic implementation of the document is essential within the framework of the economic cooperation strategy," Berdimuhamedov stated.
He also emphasized the importance of constructing new infrastructure projects, such as the Afghan sections of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) power line, as well as a railway line in Afghanistan.
"Participation of CIS countries in these and other similar projects is a reliable pathway to strategic prospects, and we must fully utilize our collective resources and potential," the president added.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of developing a green economy in the CIS countries.
In his opinion, creating conditions for the formation of low-carbon production clusters and enhancing scientific and technical cooperation is necessary for the Commonwealth countries to successfully transition to new models of economic growth.
To note, Turkmenistan plays a key role in the Asian oil and gas market, ranking fourth globally in confirmed gas reserves, with its total hydrocarbon reserves exceeding 71 billion tons in oil equivalent.
