Turkmenistan, Finland discuss enhancing parliamentary contacts

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 7. Turkmenistan and Finland are exploring new avenues for parliamentary collaboration following recent political consultations held at the Finnish foreign ministry, TurkicWorld reports via the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan.

Turkmen delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova held separate meetings with Ville Skinnari, Head of the Friendship Group with Turkmenistan in the Finnish Parliament (Eduskunta), and Ville Kaunisto, Head of the Finnish Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The meetings concentrated on potential inter-parliamentary initiatives, including organizing visits and sharing legislative experiences.

Additionally, the Finnish delegation briefed the Turkmen representatives on Finland's upcoming OSCE chairmanship in 2025, highlighting plans for increased parliamentary engagement within the organization.

During consultations with Jari Sinkari, Director General of the Department for Asia and Oceania, a range of topics was addressed, such as collaboration within international organizations like the UN, OSCE, and EU. The discussions also touched on enhancing cultural and educational interactions and establishing a framework for regular consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Finland.

The enhanced dialogue and proposed initiatives mark a significant step toward strengthening Turkmen-Finnish relations, paving the way for closer cooperation in legislative and international arenas.
