Turkmenistan invites Kazakhstan to build railway through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India

Baku. TurkicWorld:

The Turkmen authorities invite Kazakhstan to participate in the construction project of the Turgundi - Herat - Kandahar - Spin-Boldak railway, which will run from the western border of Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and further to India, TurkicWorld reports.

This was announced by the Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Mammetkhan Chakiyev, at a trilateral meeting of representatives of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan within the framework of the first North-South Transport Trade and Export Forum in Aktau.

According to him, Turkmenistan has already agreed with the Afghan authorities on the creation of a logistics center in the city of Turgundi on the Afghan-Turkmen border, the construction of which is planned to begin in the near future.

He noted that at the moment it is planned to build facilities for the transshipment of grain, containers, and other goods, and after the launch of the project, it is expected that the logistics center will give impetus to an increase in cargo turnover from Turgundi.

"We invite Kazakhstan's side to participate in the construction. It is known that you have established high-quality production of the upper railway track. There are many other possibilities. Turgundi - Herat is not only the construction of a railway but also the further development of freight traffic, attracting cargo in this direction," he stressed.

Meanwhile, at a recent expanded meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan, Mammetkhan Chakiyev noted that from January through June of this year, the growth rate in the provision of services by the Turkmendemiryollary Agency (Turkmenistan Railways) amounted to 5.1 percent.
