Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discuss increasing TAPI capacity

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 12. Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed increasing the capacity of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India (TAPI) gas pipeline, TurkicWorld reports.

According to the official source, these issues were discussed during the meeting of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul, Khoja Ovezov, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the meeting, the diplomats discussed the promotion of the TAPI pipeline construction project in Afghanistan and the possibility of further increasing its capacity.

The parties also discussed other issues of bilateral relations, including increasing the capacity of the Turgundi station to expand transit and transport links and the joint electric power project of the Nur-ul-Jihad substation in Herat province of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan's Turkmengaz State Concern has completed the construction of a 214-kilometer section of the gas pipeline passing through Turkmen territory and has fully prepared it for operation.

It is expected that the TAPI gas pipeline will annually transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas along an 1800-kilometer route from Turkmen Galkynysh, the second largest gas field in the world, to the Indian city of Fazilka, located near the border of India with Pakistan.
