BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending $60 million (55 million euros) to Türkiye’s Borusan EnBW Enerji to support the development and construction of 116 MW of onshore wind energy capacity in Sivas and Tekirdag, TurkicWorld reports.
According to the bank, Borusan EnBW Enerji, a joint venture between Borusan Holding and EnBW AG, currently operates 730 MW of renewable energy capacity.
Once the ongoing projects are completed, the company’s total installed capacity will increase to 935 MW. The new wind power projects are expected to generate 382 GWh of renewable energy annually and cut CO2 emissions by 243,000 tonnes.
Aida Sitdikova, Director and Head of Energy Eurasia, Middle East, and Africa in the EBRD’s Sustainable Infrastructure Group, emphasized the importance of the partnership: "It is crucial that major players like Borusan EnBW Enerji lead Türkiye’s green energy transition. This project will not only help reduce emissions and boost the country’s renewable capacity but also accelerate Türkiye’s climate objectives."
Since 2009, the EBRD has been a major investor in Türkiye, contributing over 20 billion euros across 450 projects and trade finance operations, primarily in the private sector.
