If Türkiye joins the European Union (EU), the union could become a global power factor.

This was mentioned in an article published by German magazine "Spiegel", TurkicWorld reports.

The article, which analysed the possible accession of Türkiye and Ukraine to the EU, estimated that the EU would grow by one third in terms of territory if both countries were to become members.

"Türkiye is bigger than Germany both in terms of population and territory. If Türkiye and Ukraine join the Union, the EU's territory will expand by a third and its population by a quarter. This would be a mega enlargement. We will leave everything behind that has happened in the European integration process since the 1950s."

The article suggested that Türkiye`s possible EU membership could help alleviate the EU's demographic decline.
