Roadmap for COP29 discussed in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 18. In Tajikistan, discussions have been held regarding the country's roadmap for COP29, which will take place in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, TurkicWorld reports.

According to the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan, the conference titled "Pre-COP29 National Conference: Tajikistan's Roadmap for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change" gathered specialists, development partners, and youth.

Participants discussed various key topics, including an overview of the Glacier Pavilion-2025 at COP29 and the development and progress of Tajikistan's biennial transparency report (BTR).

They also highlighted the progress in implementing Tajikistan's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and shared UNICEF data on the impact of climate change on children.

Additionally, the achievements of the Aga Khan Development Agency in combating climate change were discussed, along with the current status and data related to the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

The action plan of the youth delegation addressing water and climate issues was also a focal point of the presentations.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) means "Conference of Parties" and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
