Germany seeks to enhance energy cooperation with Tajikistan — Olaf Scholz

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 17. Germany is keen on expanding cooperation with Tajikistan in the energy sector, including hydroelectric power and other green energy sources, as well as in mining, environmental protection, and security issues, German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Astana, TurkicWorld reports citing the President's Administration.

Scholz emphasized Germany’s interest in collaborating with Tajikistan, urging German companies with global influence to engage in this partnership.

"We encourage German companies with worldwide influence to cooperate with Tajikistan," the Chancellor said.

The discussions also covered global challenges such as access to drinking water, glacier melting, climate change, and food security.

President Rahmon highlighted the significant contributions of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KfW) in supporting Tajikistan's national strategies.

He reminded of Germany’s role in the construction of the "Tajikistan" and "Sebzor" power stations in Badakhshan, as well as the modernization of the Nurek Hydropower Plant, expressing confidence that this experience could be extended to the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant.

Prospective areas for cooperation include the extraction and processing of minerals, particularly rare earth elements, and the expansion of bilateral collaboration in industry and agriculture, including the export of Tajik products to Germany.

President Rahmon is attending the second meeting of the "Central Asia + Germany" summit in Astana.
