BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency has released data on shuttle usage during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, the agency told TurkicWorld
As per the agency's report, in the first three days of the event, a whopping 123,000 passengers were ferried between 18 designated transport hubs, proving that the wheels were turning smoothly.
"Passengers were safely and conveniently transported from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport via the H1 express route to the 28 May and Ahmedli metro stations via the H2 express route. These shuttle services are being provided free of charge," the agency said.
To keep the ball rolling and ensure the comfort and safety of COP29 attendees, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency has been pulling out all the stops, with over 1,600 staff members on deck for passenger transport operations.
"On the first day of COP29, 35,000 passengers were transported, and around 45,000 passengers were served on the second day. The shuttle services will continue at full capacity throughout the event," the agency statement said.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium. The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date and is the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
The COP29 chairmanship has launched 14 initiatives that include linkages between climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals, including green energy corridors, green energy storage, harmony for climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane reduction in organic waste, action on green digital technologies, and other topics.
