BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Participating states of the "Lapis Lazuli" transportation route are creating an advisory group, Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development and Transportation Rashad Nabiyev wrote on X following a meeting in Türkiye, TurkicWorld reports.
"To ensure the effectiveness of this route, we discussed carrying out relevant work on infrastructure development in the member states, exchange of information between countries, creation of an advisory group, and development of an action plan. Azerbaijan attaches special importance to international and regional cooperation for the development of international transport corridors," Nabiyev said.
To note, Lapis Lazuli is a global transit corridor established in 2018, connecting Afghanistan to Türkiye through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The effort aims to strengthen the Afghan Government's National Priority Programs for Infrastructure and Connectivity Development, Energy, and Private Sector Development. The budget for the transit project is now projected at $2 billion.
The recent interest in its development has arisen due to the new geopolitical circumstances and the operational issues of the Suez Canal.
