Ceyhun Bayramov addresses CIS Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov has participated in and addressed a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Turkmenistan.

TurkicWorld reports that the meeting was held on October 7 in the Avaza National Tourist Zone as part of Bayramov’s working visit to Turkmenistan.

In his address, Bayramov stressed the importance of respecting the fundamental norms and principles of international law amid growing global tensions. He said cooperation between countries based on mutual respect and shared interests remains an important factor in ensuring regional stability, security and sustainable development.

Bayramov highlighted the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS and the 20th anniversary of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, emphasizing the organization’s role as a platform for equal dialogue and multilateral cooperation.

Speaking about humanitarian cooperation, the Azerbaijani minister highlighted the importance of the 2027–2028 Priority Action Plan, which includes more than 200 events.

He also noted Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 3rd CIS Games and events held in Lachin as part of the “CIS Cultural Capital – 2025” initiative. According to Bayramov, these activities contributed to strengthening cooperation in culture, youth and sports across the CIS space.

The minister emphasized Azerbaijan’s interest in expanding trade, economic and transport cooperation with CIS countries. He pointed to the positive dynamics of trade turnover and Azerbaijan’s geographical position, as well as major investments in infrastructure.

Bayramov noted the continued development of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, along with port and railway infrastructure. He said these projects would contribute to realizing the region’s transit and economic potential.

At the conclusion of his address, Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to good-neighbourly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with all CIS states. He also wished Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov success in his country’s upcoming chairmanship of the CIS and said Azerbaijan was ready to provide the necessary support.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on a number of regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest, as well as consideration of draft decisions to be adopted by the heads of state and government.
