BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan have jointly nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The announcement was made in a joint statement issued by the United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan marking the first anniversary of the Peace Summit held at the White House.
The statement recalled that one year earlier, Trump hosted a historic summit at the White House with Aliyev and Pashinyan, during which the two leaders signed a Joint Declaration on Peace.
It said that, in the presence of the three leaders, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialled the draft agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The statement described the developments as a major achievement that ended a decades-long conflict and opened a new path toward a more prosperous future for the South Caucasus.
“As an expression of the high appreciation given to these historic and important efforts aimed at ensuring peace, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan have jointly nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” the statement said.
