BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 20, As a result of coordinated and phased measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 16 Azerbaijani citizens, including 7 women and 9 children, were repatriated from the Syrian Arab Republic on July 18 and 19, 2026.
The information was published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. The ministry stated that the first stage involved identifying the location, identity, and Azerbaijani citizenship status of the individuals.
Members of the Working Group consisting of relevant state institutions responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens affected by crisis situations abroad were sent to Syria. Initial medical and psychological examinations of the repatriated citizens were also provided.
Following coordination efforts by Azerbaijan’s embassies in Syria and Türkiye, as well as the Consulate General in Istanbul, the citizens were provided with return certificates and flight tickets before being brought back to Azerbaijan.
The government plans to implement measures aimed at the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriated citizens into society. The Azerbaijani government stated that necessary efforts to repatriate citizens affected by armed conflicts abroad will continue.
