BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 3. A high-level Azerbaijani delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly Sahiba Gafarova traveled to Iran on July 3 to attend the funeral ceremony of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
According to the Press and Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan's National Assembly, the delegation was welcomed at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport by Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Iran Ali Alizada and protocol officials.
The Azerbaijani delegation later attended the official farewell ceremony held at Tehran's Mosalla complex.
During the event, Gafarova met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and other senior Iranian officials. On behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, she conveyed condolences and expressed the Azerbaijani people's deep sympathy and respect to the people of Iran.
The Azerbaijani delegation also includes Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ziyafat Asgarov, Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov, Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Jabbar Musayev and other senior officials.
