BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. The European Parliament has brought its hostility towards the Azerbaijani people to the institutional level, the statement of the Western Azerbaijani Community said, TurkicWorld reports.
"It is very important to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and human rights for Western Azerbaijanis, who throughout history have suffered foreign occupation, ethnic cleansing, destruction of cultural heritage, and our nation as a whole. The realization of the right of return for millions of Western Azerbaijanis who have been subjected to ethnic cleansing by Armenia at various times is a sacred duty.
Although the international conventions in force impose specific obligations on the participating states to address the systematic violations of the law committed against the Azerbaijani people, many of them, especially the Western countries, have been indifferent to this issue. They have not only turned a blind eye to these offenses but even encouraged Armenia to continue such disgraceful acts as occupation and ethnic cleansing and have always hindered the establishment of peace in the region.
Worried about the prospects for sustainable peace in the region with the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, these forces have further intensified their subversive activities. The US Congress, the European Parliament, the parliaments of France, the Netherlands, and other countries are particularly diligent in this disgraceful activity, carried out mainly through parliaments.
Throughout decades, those duplicitous forces that supported the ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis from the territory of Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan at that time, preventing their return and systematically destroying their cultural heritage, have been making groundless accusations against Azerbaijan, which is the victim of all these deeds.
This is exactly the kind of action that is another shameful resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 24, 2024. The European Parliament with this resolution makes its "contribution" to the vilification campaign of prominent circles against Azerbaijan, which is intensifying in the run-up to COP29.
To note, the European Parliament, which urged the transfer of the former "NKAO" to the Armenian SSR in 1988, has since taken its enmity against the Azerbaijani people to an institutional level and adopted dozens of documents full of hatred and slander against Azerbaijan, contradicting international law.
It is ridiculous that such a document was adopted by the European Parliament on the day of the meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Kazan. The views of the deputies, especially from France, who have the worldview of crusaders, as if competing with each other in debates, are disgusting.
We, as the Western Azerbaijan Community, strongly condemn the attempts of the European Parliament and others to discriminate against the Azerbaijani people on ethnic and religious grounds, to contribute to the recreation of conflict in the region, and to disguise these disgusting actions as "protection of human rights". We will continue to denounce anti-Azerbaijani policies and attempts by these elements to promote their own political agenda over human rights," the community's statement reads.
