BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, TurkicWorld reports.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and the UN, preparatory processes in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and the priorities of Azerbaijan's presidency in COP29 were discussed.
Drawing attention to the importance of Azerbaijan's role in multilateral diplomacy, as well as in UN institutions, the UN Deputy Secretary-General highly appreciated the activities of our country in organizing COP29. Along with this, the importance of the final document adopted during the Future Summit was emphasized.
Significant progress of our country in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals was also noted.
Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the negotiation process within the framework of COP29 under the presidency of Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of consensus to achieve a new quantitative financial target to meet the financial needs to combat climate change. The parties emphasized the importance of support from the UN and international financial institutions in this direction. At the same time, support was provided for 14 initiatives put forward in various areas by the COP29 presidency.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
