Azerbaijani CEC sifting through handful of appeals - official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. Twelve separate appeals are now being reviewed by the Central Election Commission, chairperson of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov said at today's meeting of the commission, a source at the CEC told TurkicWorld

"The Central Election Commission has so far received only 12 appeals regarding the parliamentary elections. We believe that the elections were held at a high level," Panahov said.

To note, extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on September 1.

A total of 112,749 local observers were registered to monitor the elections. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of political parties. The number of registered international observers was 598, representing 51 organizations and 69 countries.

Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections, 305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Although 371 candidates are members of political parties, they were not nominated by the parties to which they belong. A total of 676 candidates have political party affiliation.
