Romania, Azerbaijan negotiating future projects within friendship groups - senator

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 4. Future projects are being discussed within the framework of friendship groups between Romania and Azerbaijan, the Senator of the National Liberal Party of Romania Cristian-Augustin Niculescu-Țâgârlaș told TurkicWorld

The senator noted that his presence in Baku is realized due to the initiative of the Chairperson of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, who kindly extended an invitation to the election monitoring mission to the Chairperson of the Romanian Senate, Nicolae Ciucă.

He emphasized that active work is already underway between the parliamentary commissions of Azerbaijan and Romania in the spheres of cooperation, energy, culture, and higher education.

"Active work is being carried out between the parliamentary commissions of Azerbaijan and Romania, especially within the framework of friendship groups discussing promising projects. Following Türkiye, Romania became the second country to recognize Azerbaijan's independence. I would like to note that Azerbaijan is a key partner for us, especially in the energy sector. This cooperation is of strategic importance not only for our country but also for the whole of Europe.

We are proud that Romania remains the most stable and reliable partner in the region, and the policy of the friendship group I represent goes towards Azerbaijan's initiatives. We are open to supporting common projects in the fields of culture, education, and commercial ties, which are the key to future stability in the Black Sea region," he said.

The official mentioned that he heads parliamentary friendship groups with several countries in the region, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan, and sees huge potential for developing cooperation, especially in the energy sector.

"Developing relations with Central Asia is a priority for us, and I am actively working on programs aimed at strengthening friendship and developing projects with these countries," the senator stated.

According to him, Azerbaijan is and must remain an important partner of Europe.

"Romania has always supported Azerbaijan and keeps on doing so at all levels of cooperation. Our countries are linked by strong historical and diplomatic relations based on mutual respect and common interests. Azerbaijan is and should remain an important partner of Europe, and Romania will continue to play an active role in strengthening this strategic partnership," he added, emphasizing the importance of further deepening cooperation between the countries.

Niculescu-Țâgârlaș also emphasized that Romania highly appreciates Azerbaijan's contribution to Europe's energy security, its efforts in ensuring stable gas supplies, and its striving for sustainable development.
