Azerbaijani FM holds deliberations with Malaysian Senate deputy chairperson

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Malaysian Senate Nur Jazlan bin Mohamed, who is on a visit to the country to observe the extraordinary elections to the Azerbaijani Parliament, TurkicWorld reports.

In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed ties between Azerbaijan and Malaysia, the progress of the extraordinary election to the Azerbaijani Parliament held on September 1 this year, as well as regional issues.

The minister provided an update on the ongoing efforts to ensure that the parliamentary elections would be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with the presence of foreign observers. It is a watershed moment since parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan's newly liberated territory for the first time. It was observed that, in accordance with the law, the necessary circumstances were put in place to ensure that the elections were conducted to a high standard, according completely to international norms.

The meeting addressed issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Malaysia, and prospects of development of bilateral ties, including joint efforts in tourism and education. Referring to the continuation of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries in Kuala Lumpur in July last year, the Minister noted that the next consultations will be held in Baku soon. Successful experience of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of various regional and international organizations, including the UN, Non-Aligned Movement, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation, was noted.

The parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
