BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23. Negotiations are underway with Egyptian carriers on opening direct flights to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development and Transportation Rashad Nabiyev said at an event dedicated to Egypt's National Day, TurkicWorld reports.
"Cooperation between our countries also includes the spheres of culture and tourism," he said.
The minister noted that the number of tourists traveling from Egypt to Azerbaijan has doubled over the past two years after the pandemic. The number of Azerbaijani citizens traveling to Egypt has increased almost three times.
"Direct flights can further increase these numbers. Azerbaijan Airlines currently operates two direct flights between Baku and Sharm el-Sheikh," Nabiyev added.
To note, the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 27, 1992. The Egyptian Embassy in Baku has been functioning since April 1993, and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Cairo since January 1994.
