"The recent riots in both states that broke out due to provocations were clearly not an accident," Hafizoglu said.
He pointed out that the top priority for both Türkiye and Syria right now is to put a lid on the unrest and tackle terrorism, which is a shared menace.
"Previous actions by Damascus to restore relations with Ankara have been constructive. It should be kept in mind that Syria is currently putting a lot of effort into mending fences with neighboring Arab states and Turkey," Hafizoglu added.
