Azerbaijan does not grant appeal against arrest of Karabakh separatist Vardanyan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. The appeal against the arrest of Ruben Vardanyan, who held the "position" of the so-called "state minister" of the separatist regime in Karabakh, and now is imprisoned in Baku, was not granted, TurkicWorld reports.

Vardanyan's lawyer Afet Gaziyeva filed an appeal against the court's ruling to impose a preventive measure of arrest against him.

The appeal was considered in the Baku Court of Appeal chaired by Judge Habil Mammadov.

The court did not satisfy the complaint, considering the first instance court's decision to be justified.

As a result of vigilance of servicemen of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan on September 27, Vardanyan, who was heading from Azerbaijan towards Armenia, was detained at the Lachin border checkpoint.

Substantial suspicions were established that Ruben Vardanyan, currently a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, had committed criminal acts under Articles 214-1 (financing of terrorism), 279.3 (participation in the establishment and activities of armed formations or groups not provided for by law) and 318.1 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A measure of restraint in the form of detention for 4 months was chosen against him.
