Personal interests of some forces in Armenia depend on conflict with Azerbaijan - Matthew Bryza

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. There are people in Armenia whose personal interests depend on there being conflict with Azerbaijan, former U.S. Ambassador to the country Matthew Bryza told TurkicWorld.

as he was commenting on the latest escalation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

"These are the revanchist extreme nationalists, the members of the Dashnaksutyun whose branch in the United States, the Armenian National Committee of America, is constantly issuing messages of hate toward Azerbaijan and Turkiye. They're the ones that blocked my nomination as ambassador to Azerbaijan," he said.

Bryza believes that they all know, whether these revanchists are in Armenia or in the United States, that they personally will do better politically and financially if there's no peace with Azerbaijan.

"But I think that we're still going to see the process move forward thanks to the very fruitful mediation thus far by European Council President Charles Michel as well as US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken," he concluded.

On June 15, 2023, at 08:45 (GMT+4), as a result of shelling from the territory of Armenia, a serviceman of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, who served at the Lachin border checkpoint, was wounded. The enemy firing point was suppressed by return fire, the situation is under the control of Azerbaijani units.
