Work on concept of 'Return' to Western Azerbaijan nearing completion - official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Work on the concept of 'Return' to Western Azerbaijan (historical lands of Azerbaijan located in modern-day Armenia's territory) is nearing completion, Chairman of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community Aziz Alakbarli told reporters, TurkicWorld reports.

According to Alakbarli, along with the Board of Directors, other bodies also actively participate in the preparation of the document.

He noted that during this process, a large number of valuable proposals were received from the general public. The proposals received were analyzed, and systematized by main topics, and a draft document is being prepared.

"The draft document is based on internationally recognized progressive approaches and principles in the field of repatriation and reflects the conceptual position of the Community on security, legal, practical, socio-economic and other aspects of the return process," the official further said.

"The concept will serve to establish justice and peace on the basis of international and relevant domestic law, as well as historical facts. After the completion of discussions in the main bodies of the Community, the board will complete the preparation of the draft document and submit it to the Supervisory Board for official approval in the prescribed manner," Alakbarli added.

The Western Azerbaijan Community began developing the 'Concept of Return' by instruction of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in December last year. The head of state put forward this concept during a meeting with intellectuals from Western Azerbaijan on December 24, 2022.
