BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he defended the legitimacy of the Iranian nation during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, adding that his speech was adjusted after hearing US President Donald Trump’s remarks a day earlier.
Speaking to Iranian media, Pezeshkian said his team had prepared an initial version of the speech, but Trump’s address led them to reconsider and expand their message.
According to Pezeshkian, his UNGA speech focused on what he described as the realities of US policies toward Iran and the wider international system.
“The Iranian nation, with its deep roots and rich civilisation, cannot be destroyed,” Pezeshkian said, emphasizing Iran’s historical identity and resilience.
The Iranian president also accused the United States of acting against international laws and humanitarian principles, claiming that Washington relies on pressure and the use of force. These statements reflect Tehran’s longstanding criticism of US policies and sanctions.
Pezeshkian’s remarks followed his UN General Assembly speech, where he addressed Iran’s position on negotiations, regional tensions and the situation in Palestine.
The Iranian president said Tehran remains committed to defending its national interests while presenting its views on international issues.
