BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22. Brigadier-General Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said Iran will begin reverse-engineering a US underwater drone recently captured by Iranian naval forces.
Speaking to state media, Mohebbi said the unmanned underwater vehicle was among other military equipment seized during the nearly seven-month war involving the United States and Israel.
“This advanced technology exists in the underwater vessel that fell into the hands of the IRGC Navy forces, and its reverse-engineering will begin,” he said.
Mohebbi added that the conflict had demonstrated, in Iran’s view, that some of the most advanced US technologies used in military and defence industries had come under Iranian control.
The vessel is identified as a Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle designed for long-range surveillance and other undersea missions. It is part of a newer generation of military drones designed to operate for extended periods with limited human intervention.
