Pezeshkian says Iran will back Hamas’s position in Gaza negotiations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran will support the position adopted by Hamas in the ongoing negotiations over the Gaza Strip.

According to Iranian media, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau.

“Iran will support every measure, initiative and decision that Palestinian leaders take in the negotiation process,” Pezeshkian said.

His comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts to reach a lasting agreement on Gaza.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Hamas had agreed to disarm following negotiations involving his Board of Peace, along with Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye.

However, Israeli officials have maintained that Israel will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed, while Hamas has said it would consider disarmament only after Israeli forces withdraw from the territory.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had not agreed to the proposal outlined by Trump.
