BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. The Organization of War, Labor and Armed Forces Veterans of Azerbaijan has called on the international community to support the solution to the mine problem.
This is reflected in a statement issued by the organization regarding the threats posed by Armenia's mine terrorism.
"For more than 30 years, Armenia has been carrying out mine terrorism against Azerbaijan. We note with great regret that despite the end of the 44-day Second Karabakh War and the initialing of the peace text between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the mine problem, which has brought misfortune to hundreds of families and claimed the lives of dozens of people, has not yet been resolved. This, in addition to being a serious threat to the life and health of Azerbaijani citizens, is seriously hindering the process of development, construction, and settlement in the lands liberated from occupation, and is undermining the newly formed atmosphere of trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Armenia's refusal to provide Azerbaijan with a map of mined areas is further complicating the current situation and prolonging the solution of the problem for an indefinite period.
Taking into account all this, we, as the Organization of War, Labor and Armed Forces Veterans, call on international organizations and the world community to closely participate in solving the mine problem and take more effective and decisive steps to solve this problem. In order to combat mines, our country needs the necessary financial support, allocating modern technical means, and exerting more serious pressure on Armenia to provide Azerbaijan with a map of mined areas can be effective means of solving the mine problem.
We remind you that mine terrorism, which is prohibited by international laws and conventions, is considered a grave crime against all humanity, and putting an end to this terrorism is the moral duty and human duty of everyone, regardless of race, language, religion, or nationality.
We hope that international organizations, world states, and the international community will take all necessary steps to eliminate the mine problem facing Azerbaijan, and will contribute to ensuring reliable peace and security in the South Caucasus by supporting the solution of this problem," the statement said.
