BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 16. On December 15, 2025, an event dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the outstanding Azerbaijani architect Ajami Nakhchivani was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris at the initiative of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, TurkicWorld reports.
Within the framework of the event, the book published by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation entitled “The Genius of Azerbaijani Architectural Heritage: Ajami Nakhchivani – 900” was presented, along with an exhibition showcasing the rich creative legacy of the great architect. The publication was released in three languages: Azerbaijani, Russian, and English.
The aim of the event was to present to the international audience the exceptional contribution of Ajami Nakhchivani to the history of world architecture, the universal value of the Azerbaijani architectural school, and the role of the Turkic world in shaping the cultural heritage of humanity.
Speaking at the event, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Mrs. Aktoty Raimkulova, noted that the event was timed to coincide with 15 December - the World Turkic Language Family Day, and emphasized its symbolic significance. She highly praised Ajami Nakhchivani’s work as a vivid expression of the intellectual and spiritual heritage of the Turkic world, highlighting that his architectural masterpieces combine advanced technical skill, philosophical depth, and cultural identity. It was also emphasized that holding the jubilee event under the auspices of UNESCO reflects the international recognition of the value of his legacy.
Speeches were also delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mr. Elman Abdullayev; Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO Mr. Ernesto Ottone Ramírez; Secretary of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan Mr. Rasim Babakishiyev; and the representative of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO Mrs. Nigar Rahimli.
The event was held in a ceremonial atmosphere, reaffirming the importance of international cooperation in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
