According to information, three Azerbaijani athletes hit the mat on the third day of the competition.
Suleyman Shukurov (81 kg) snagged the team's first bronze medal.

Suleyman Shukurov hit the ground running in the second round, taking the wind out of Mihajlo Simin's sails from Serbia. Next, he knocked out Sung-Min Kim from Korea and sent Joshua De Lange from the Netherlands packing to reach the semifinals. In this round, he came up short against Jiangnan Wang from China, but in the fight for bronze, he turned the tables and bested Muhammad Yusufzoda from Tajikistan.

Starting with an upset over Iran's Amir Chopan, Aslan Kotsoyev advanced to the quarterfinals with victories against Uzbekistan's Shakhzodxuja Sharipov and Spain's Marcos Martinez Coin. He was eliminated at this stage by the Japanese player Komei Kawabata and advanced to the consolation round, where he was defeated by the Italian player Henry Owusu. Fifth place was the outcome.
Tuncay Shamil threw down the gauntlet in the second round, but ended up biting the dust against Egor Malkin (IJF).
