Kyrgyzstan begins development of largest titanium-magnetite deposit

As part of a working trip to Issyk-Kul Oblast, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration Akylbek Zhaparov took part in a significant event - the laying of a capsule symbolizing the beginning of development of the largest titanium-magnetite deposit in Kyrgyzstan - Kyzyl-Ompol in the Tash-Bulak area.

Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized that the development of this valuable resource will be carried out by the state, the sources of funding for the project will be determined, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

"This is a very important event for Kyrgyzstan. The Kyzyl-Ompol deposit contains millions of tons of titanomagnetite. Titanium is a valuable metal that is used in various industries, including medicine, aviation and astronautics. The development of this deposit will allow us not only to increase exports, but also to create new jobs, which will give a boost to the country's economy," he said.

The chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers also emphasized the importance of environmentally safe approach to the development of the deposit, noting that during the extraction of titanomagnetite will be applied technologies that guarantee safe extraction of associated minerals such as uranium and thorium. These elements will be removed in strict compliance with international safety standards.

After the capsule laying ceremony, Akylbek Zhaparov familiarized himself with the progress of construction of a small hydropower plant at the Orto-Tokoy reservoir. The construction of this HPP is part of the state program to increase electricity production and create new energy sources in Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of his working trip, Zhaparov familiarized himself with the reconstruction of the Balykchy-Bokonbaev-Karakol highway on the Balykchy-Barskoon section of the road.
