Hefty chunk of Horadiz village cleared of mines - ANAMA

FUZULI, Azerbaijan, September 12. A total of 80 percent of the territory of Goradiz village has been cleared of mines, the manager of operations of the Agency of Azerbaijan Republic for Mine Action (ANAMA), Gabil Babayev told TurkicWorld

According to him, demining operations in the territories liberated from occupation continue at a rapid pace and are carried out in three ways: by mechanical means, with the help of dogs, and manually.

"Demining is also continuing in the village of Horadiz in the Fuzuli district. As much as 80 percent of this village has already been cleared of mines and unexploded ammunition.

Since in general the areas liberated from occupation are heavily contaminated with mines, ANAMA staff also encounter mixed minefields during demining. Due to the lack of mine maps of these areas, the density and sequence of explosive ordnance are unknown.

The major danger, though, is that most wooden and plastic-cased mines are deformed over the years by weather conditions and explosive devices are triggered unaided.

Immediately after liberation from occupation in 2020, demining work began in Fuzuli, initially, preliminary designs were projected for the construction of railroad lines, road infrastructure, and clearing areas through which power lines would pass, and ANAMA conducted rapid clearance operations.

At the same time, operations were carried out to clean the bed and adjacent parts of lakes Ahmadbayli, Shusha, Kondalan, the town of Fuzuli itself, and the surrounding villages, and cleanup operations were carried out in the villages that were given assignments for urban planning projects.

The village we are presently in is the territory of Horadiz village, which was very close to the enemy positions for 27 years, so this territory was heavily contaminated by the enemy with mines, as a result, cleaning these territories is a very difficult process," he added.
