BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) and Georgian Railways JSC have established a joint venture, BTKI Railways LLC, TurkicWorld reports via the X publication by the Head of the Board of ADY Rovshan Rustamov.
The new business will be in charge of the infrastructure of the Marabda-Kartsakhi section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, which the publication highlighted, as well as the efficient organization of cargo transportation on the BTK and the attraction of new cargo.
"The joint efforts of Azerbaijan and Georgia through this enterprise will also be geared towards bolstering regional transport connections, particularly the potential of the Middle Corridor," the publication added.
The Middle Corridor links the container rail freight transportation networks of China and the European Union countries via Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe. It facilitates the flow of cargo from China to Türkiye, as well as to Europe and vice versa.
The multilateral multimodal transportation infrastructure links the ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Ukraine, and Poland.
One major benefit of this transport corridor is the relatively short time it takes for the route train to convey goods from China to Europe—about 20–25 days on average.
