Azerbaijan launches project on Jabrayil city's drinking water supply, sewerage

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. Implementation of the project to establish drinking water supply and sewerage systems in Azerbaijan's Jabrayil city has begun, according to the coordination headquarters for centralized resolution of issues in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, TurkicWorld reports via the State Agency of Water Resources.

By the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the implementation of projects on the establishment of drinking and wastewater supply systems in Azerbaijan's liberated territories continues intensively.

The project for constructing external water supply and sewerage systems for Jabrayil city, commissioned by the State Agency of Water Resources, is designed to meet the needs of 15,000 people, taking into account prospective development until 2040.

In 2023, one geological exploration well was drilled to ensure Jabrayil city has a sustainable and high-quality drinking water supply.

The productivity of the selected source and the quality of the water allow for the provision of drinking water to the city and surrounding villages.

A total of nine subartesian wells are planned to be drilled in the well zone located north of Jabrayil city, and work in this direction has already begun.

At the initial stage, three wells will be drilled, and as the population settling in the city increases, new wells will be drilled.

As part of the project, six reservoirs with a total capacity of 7,000 cubic meters will be built in Jabrayil city.

Presently, construction continues on a 2,000-cubic-meter reservoir and a three-kilometer main water pipeline to ensure water supply to the city, as well as a six-kilometer sewer collector to transport wastewater to treatment facilities.

In Jabrayil city, 52 km of drinking water networks, 38 km of sewerage networks, and 40 km of stormwater drainage networks will be built.

To treat and disinfect the wastewater generated in the city, a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 6,000 cubic meters per day will be constructed.

The treatment facilities and the collector will allow for the collection and treatment of wastewater from several villages in addition to Jabrayil city itself.

The new infrastructure built in the city will be managed based on the 'smart water' system.

As part of the project, each infrastructure element will be equipped with a SCADA system.

In the near future, within the framework of the 'Great Return' program and considering the beginning of the settlement of the villages of Horovlu and Shukurbayli in the Jabrayil district, preparations are underway to establish water supply systems in these villages.
