Azerbaijan enforces foreign-invested firms in Karabakh, Eastern Zangezur - deputy minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. The trends of "greening and decarbonization" in the global economy create opportunities for the development of economies that do not have resources, Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Sahib Mammadov said at the third SDG Dialogue on the topic "Results of the Global Summit on SDGs 2023 and the Role of Supreme Financial Control Bodies in the Implementation of the SDGs", TurkicWorld reports.

"Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur have significant potential, which attracts the interest of foreign investors. Serious steps have already been taken in this area to create enterprises with foreign investments," said Mammadov.

"However, the main obstacle to the rehabilitation of the liberated lands is the mining of these territories. This factor slows down the process of implementing multidisciplinary projects that form the basis of economic revival in these territories," he said.

In addition, Mammadov noted that it is no coincidence that the head of state put forward an initiative to add mine clearance to the UN Agenda until 2030 as the 18th SDG, the draft of which was prepared and presented to the local and international community.

"The 18th SDG consists of five objectives and 15 indicators. These tasks include clearing the territories of mines and unexploded ordnance, increasing expenditures in this direction, involving land plots in agricultural turnover and economic activity, improving the standard of living of the population, and strengthening social protection for vulnerable groups of the population," he said.

The third Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) dialogue is being held in Baku on the topic "The results of the Global Summit on the SDGs 2023 and the role of the Supreme Financial Control Bodies in the implementation of the SDGs".

The dialogue is co-chaired by the Chairman of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, the Chamber of Accounts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.
