BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sharply criticised the European Parliament, describing the institution as a “nest of corruption.”
The Azerbaijani President made the remarks during a meeting with participants of international conferences in Baku.
“The European Parliament is a nest of corruption. I say this with full responsibility — the European Parliament is a nest of corruption,” President Ilham Aliyev said.
The head of state also referred to a corruption scandal involving a former vice-president of the European Parliament.
“Millions of dollars in suitcases were found at the home of its vice-president, and they covered it all up,” Ilham Aliyev said.
On September 15, President Ilham Aliyev received Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev, members and observers of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Administrations of the Organization of Turkic States, co-organisers of the Yahya Bakuvi International Conference, and a delegation comprising members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Peoples of the Caucasus.
