Kazakhstan to set up Caspian Sea Research Institute

Kazakhstan will set up the Caspian Sea Research Institute. The Government of Kazakhstan approved the Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry’s resolution to develop the institute, Kazinform News Agency cites the Ministry’s press service.

The research institute will study ecological problems of the Caspian Sea, lowering of the sea level, mass mortality of fish and seals, preservation of the Caspian seal population, as well as to cooperate with the Caspian littoral states.

It will present independent information about the Caspian Sea ecosystem which will help state and local executive bodies take comprehensive measures.

The institute will also give an opportunity to fulfill international and national liabilities for preserving the Caspian Sea. Such organizations exist in other Caspian Sea states. The institute will let study the pressing issues, solve tasks and strengthen international cooperation, the Minister said.
