V Int’l Energy Efficiency Forum kicks off in Kazakhstan

The V International Energy Efficiency Forum kicked off in Kazakhstan to discuss the current power consumption in various sectors of Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Addressing those present Majilis deputy, chairman of the ecology and nature management committee Yedil Zhanbyrshin reminded in his State-of-the-Nation Address Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew attention to energy saving and efficiency increase.

He stressed the task is to reduce key energy consumption and energy-output ratio by 15% at the minimum by 2029.

Thanks to active development of the policy in 2021 Kazakhstan achieved a reduction in energy-output ratio by 38.5% against 2008.

According to the International Energy Agency, Kazakhstan’s economy is twice as energy-intensive as the average and 3.2 times more energy-intensive as compared to the OECD member states. The most energy consumption falls on the industrial and housing sectors.

As the head of the industry committee of the Industry and Construction Ministry Azamat Panbayev said, in 2018 Kazakhstan hosted the first International Energy Efficiency Forum. In 2019 November 11 was declared as the Energy Efficiency Day.

The forum is organized by the power engineering and energy efficiency development institute JSC jointly with the Kazakh Industry and Construction Ministry with the support of the UNDP in Kazakhstan, The European Union's program for Sustainable Energy Connectivity in Central Asia (SECCA), GIZ, USAID, and DENA.
