BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. Azerbaijan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have explored opportunities for collaboration on creating a green energy corridor connecting Azerbaijan, Central Asia, and Europe, TurkicWorld reports.
According to the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, these discussions occurred during a meeting between Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov and an ADB delegation, which included ADB Energy Sector Director General Priyantha Wijayatunga and Director for Energy of East, Central, and West Asia Joonho Hwang.
The sides praised the longstanding and successful partnership between Azerbaijan and the Bank, particularly highlighting the Bank's support in implementing projects related to the transportation of Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe.
The conversation covered potential energy sector projects and new avenues for further collaboration. Special attention was given to the development of renewable energy sources (RES) in Azerbaijan, along with the production and export of green energy. Additionally, energy initiatives and planned activities within the framework of COP29 were highlighted.
The meeting also addressed the "Knowledge exchange and technical assistance support for the development of floating solar panel systems" project, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Energy and ADB. Last month, a 100 kW solar energy complex was commissioned on Boyukshor Lake, and the discussion included the anticipated impact of this project on diversifying Azerbaijan's green energy sources.
Furthermore, the topic of heat supply reforms in Azerbaijan, to be implemented with ADB's technical support, was discussed.
The meeting also touched on the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe green energy corridor project and explored future cooperation possibilities for establishing the Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe green energy corridor.
