Uzbekistan’s hydropower potential reaches 2.5 GW

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 4. Uzbekistan focuses on developing renewable energy sources, TurkicWorld reports via UzA.

The projects implemented by Uzbekhydroenergo JSC in this area strengthen the country’s energy system and ensure a stable energy supply. Over $1 billion has already been attracted to the hydropower sector, 43% of which is foreign investment. This indicates a high level of international cooperation and trust in the industry.

As a result of the attracted investments, 85 production facilities were put into operation – 55 pressurized hydroelectric power plants, 16 unpressurized hydroelectric power plants, a wind farm, and 13 modernized facilities. 841 MW of capacity has been created. This helps ensure the stable operation of the country’s energy system and an uninterrupted power supply to the population and economic sectors.

According to the company’s information service, Uzbekistan’s current hydropower potential is 2.5 GW. This figure increased by 52% compared to 2017.
