Azerbaijan interested in household gasification in Bulgaria

Baku. TurkicWorld:

Azerbaijan is interested in household gasification in Bulgaria, said Azerbaijan's ambassador to this country Huseyn Huseynov, TurkicWorld reports.

During a meeting with Bulgarian Energy Minister Rumen Radev, the ambassador emphasized the need to recommence the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation as soon as possible.

Minister Radev pointed out that Azerbaijan is a strategic and reliable energy partner. Both sides confirmed their interest in expanding cooperation in gas supplies to the Bulgarian and regional markets, as well as in the development of renewable energy technologies. They also discussed the possibilities of using hydrogen.

The meeting was also attended by Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Energy Iva Petrova, head of SOCAR Bulgaria Murad Huseynov, representatives of SOCAR, and experts of Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

Bulgaria started importing gas from Azerbaijan through the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), which was put into operation on October 1, 2022. The contracted volume of gas supplies through this interconnector is 1 billion cubic meters per year. The total capacity of the IGB is 3 billion cubic meters, with the possibility of expansion up to 5 billion cubic meters per year.

Azerbaijan began gas exports to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor on December 31, 2020. Azerbaijan plans to export 12 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe this year.
