Azerbaijan's SOCAR to supply natural gas to plethora of Bulgarian schools, kindergartens

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will supply natural gas to 10 schools and kindergartens in Bulgaria's Ruse province in the coming months, TurkicWorld reports.

This project will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and energy costs in Ruse.

The company, in collaboration with M-Gaz, has begun direct natural gas supplies to social consumers in the province.

The main beneficiary of the "Hybrid Gasification" pilot project, implemented jointly by SOCAR, M-Gaz, and the Ruse municipality, is the St. St. Cyril and Methodius primary school in Nikolovo village, part of the Ruse municipality. The necessary amount of natural gas, which SOCAR has committed to supply, will be provided to this school.

The ceremony marking the completion of the compressed natural gas (CNG) installation at the school was attended by Head of SOCAR's Regional Office in the Balkans Murad Heydarov, Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov, and the CEO of M-Gas Stoyan Manolov.

This marks the continuation of the successful partnership between SOCAR and M-Gaz, which began on June 21 of this year when natural gas supplies started to industrial enterprises in Bulgaria.

SOCAR, which accounts for 50 percent of gas consumption in Bulgaria, aims to expand its presence in the Bulgarian gas market and secure about 7.5 percent of the domestic distribution sector.

By supplying climate-friendly natural gas to a number of municipalities in Bulgaria, SOCAR is contributing to the gradual phase-out of traditional energy sources (such as fuel oil, lignite coal, and diesel fuel), supporting Bulgaria's climate protection strategy, and efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
