Azerbaijan hosts COP29 at elevated level of significance - Uzbek minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. Azerbaijan has organized COP29 at a very high level, Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov told reporters on the sidelines of the COP29 event in Baku today, TurkicWorld reports.

"We are genuinely pleased in Uzbekistan regarding Azerbaijan's achievements," the minister said.

According to him, today at COP29, a meeting was held between the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"They discussed bilateral cooperation and outlined new plans. Joint projects between the two countries are being implemented. Our presidents have set specific tasks to complement bilateral partnerships with new initiatives and new projects. We have a joint Uzbek-Azerbaijani investment company, which has already prepared joint projects worth half a billion dollars for financing.

Large development companies from Azerbaijan are entering the Uzbek market, and our textile companies are operating in the Azerbaijani market. Next year, we will launch a full-scale car manufacturing project in Azerbaijan. Thus, the prospects are very promising," he added.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

The event is the greatest organized by Azerbaijan to date and the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan. On November 12–13, the summit of world leaders on climate action will be the most significant event within COP29.

The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance. The COP29 chairmanship has launched 14 initiatives that include linkages between climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals, including green energy corridors, green energy storage, harmony for climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane reduction in organic waste, action on green digital technologies, and other topics.
