BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Kazakhstan actively supports Azerbaijan in holding COP29, Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova told TurkicWorld on the sidelines of COP29 in Azerbaijan.
"COP29 presents a distinctive chance for the area to showcase its efforts in combating climate change. We anticipate that this event will significantly enhance understanding of climate dangers and opportunities for regions proactively confronting environmental concerns," she said.
Suleimenova is convinced that the collaboration between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on climate initiatives will keep on trucking and yield fruitful results for both nations.
"Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have attained a significant degree of engagement; yet, both parties persist in exploring novel avenues to enhance collaboration. In this setting, it is essential to not only endorse existing initiatives but also to discern new avenues for collaborative ventures," she added.
To note, Baku hosts the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the official opening ceremony of which was held on September 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
The Summit of World Leaders on Climate Action will be held on November 12–13.
The decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was made on December 11 last year at the plenary session of COP28 in Dubai.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed in June 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to prevent dangerous anthropogenic impacts on the climate system.
The first session was held in March 1995 in Berlin and the conference secretariat is located in Bonn.
