Azerbaijan's national electric mobility plan set to unveil at COP29

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. There will be two primary stages to the implementation of the "National Electric Mobility Plan" that is expected to be announced during COP29, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said in an article published in the "Azerbaijan" newspaper, TurkicWorld reports.

He noted that the first phase, covering the years 2024-2027, focuses on developing the foundational infrastructure for electric mobility in the country and creating a regulatory framework to support its operation.

"The second phase involves engaging the private sector with government support to advance the electric mobility market and charging infrastructure beyond 2027. Following the president's directive to promote the use of electric vehicles, plans are in place to install at least 77 charging stations in and around Baku, with a minimum of 70 on major highways and at least 20 in liberated areas. Amendments to the laws "On Energy" and "On the Use of Renewable Energy Sources in the Production of Electricity" are currently being coordinated to expand electric mobility.

Among the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Energy and its Agency for Energy Regulation are legislative improvements and ongoing reforms in the energy sector. This includes bills "On regulation in the sphere of energy and utility services" and "On heating supply" and numerous regulatory acts, as well as a "Plan of Action for the Step-by-Step Implementation of Elements of the Electricity Market Elements" and the establishment of a Coordinating Council for its execution.

In conjunction with the "market rules corresponding to the target model of the formation of a competitive environment between producers and suppliers of electricity," over 10 rules have been developed covering aspects such as monitoring producer access to electrical networks, electricity usage, installation safety, technical operations, and other directions," the article said.
