BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan will sign an intergovernmental agreement on strategic partnership in the field of development and transfer of green energy within COP29, the country's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said in an article published in the "Azerbaijan" newspaper, TurkicWorld reports.
The minister noted that Azerbaijan is also an important party to the initiative to create a new energy corridor, the point of departure of which is Central Asia.
"Based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan signed in November last year and May this year, envisaging the creation of a joint communication and green energy corridor, the Terms of Reference for the project feasibility study (FS) was approved as soon as possible, and the Italian company CESI was selected as the company responsible for the development of the FS. One of the forthcoming tasks is the establishment of a Joint Venture for the project with headquarters in Baku.
The signing of the "Intergovernmental Agreement between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy" within the framework of the Investment Forum on Energy Transition for Central Asia is among our plans for COP. The possibility of connecting the green energy corridor "Caspian-Black Sea-Europe" to Central Asia is also being discussed from a practical point of view.
Thus, the "Caspian-Black Sea-Europe", "Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe" and "Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe" green energy corridors, which will strengthen the security of supply to Europe as well as accelerate the transition to clean energy, claim to become a single green energy platform of pan-Eurasian scale. The uniqueness of these projects, led by Azerbaijan, is that these corridors will link production and consumption centers, regions, and continents in a renewable energy system, ensuring balance.
Azerbaijan will fulfill the strategic mission to deliver green energy to Europe through various routes from reliable energy sources, the Caspian Sea and Central Asia regions. Today, given the global challenges related to the important role of interconnectors in enhancing grid resilience and supporting greater integration of renewable energy between regions, it is even more evident that our country is taking proactive steps," the minister said in the article.
